The upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLS has been spied testing in AMG guise for the very first time. When it reaches the market, the vehicle in question is tipped to be dubbed the Mercedes-AMG GLS63 and it will replace the GL in the German firm’s range of SUVs and become just the latest Mercedes SUV to receive a new name.

Featuring a thoroughly updated design as well as a selection of new mechanical components and advanced technologies, the GLS will be the last SUV Mercedes-Benz reveals during its 2015 onslaught of new vehicles. Standard GLS models are expected to be unveiled at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show 2015 next month.

As evidenced from these spy shots, the Mercedes-AMG GLS63 AMG will be easy to differentiate from non-AMG branded variants. Most notably, the front end will include an aggressive new bumper with enlarged air intakes. Elsewhere, extended side skirts will be fitted alongside the sides as will a set of black AMG-branded wheels.

At the rear, the car unsurprisingly features four squared exhaust pipes as with all other current AMG models.
