A range of official photos of the potent 2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe testing have been released showing the sports car testing at the Hockenheimring. The release of these images come ahead of the car’s official debut at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show 2015 in September in both AMG guise and standard C-Class Coupe configuration.
These images show that the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe will be just as aggressive as the C63 sedan and perhaps even more so thanks to its two fewer doors and more streamlined and aggressive roofline. From the front, it looks very similar to the four-door meaning it includes enlarged air intakes, a menacing bumper and a prominent splitter. Elsewhere we can see flared wheel arches as well as a large bootlid lip spoiler.
As for lesser C-Class Coupe models, they are tipped to receive identical powertrains to both the existing sedan and estate variations. This will include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, two four-cylinder diesels and a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6.
More generally, it was recently announced that the German marque has lowered the roofline of the new C-Class Coupe by 1.6 inches compared to the outgoing model. While that would generally result in less headroom for rear passengers, the automaker opted for pushing the rear seats forward and dropping them be almost an inch to ensure the rear remains usable. This decision also means that the centre of gravity of the new C-Class Coupe will be lower than it currently is therefore aiding in handling.
