Not too long ago, Volkswagen confirmed that the incredible Golf R400 would reach the production line. Now additional details about the production-spec car have surfaced along with news that the car will be produced in strictly limited numbers.
It remains to be seen just how many examples will be produced but it will inevitably be the world’s most expensive hot hatch. Consequently, it will certainly eclipse the 52,700 euro starting price of the capable Audi RS3 Sportback. While ‘still’ a Volkswagen Golf, it will be capable of supercar levels of performance and be unlike any other car on the market.
Powering the car will be the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine first previewed by the Audi TT 420 Concept Car. In Golf R400 Concept guise, that engine delivered 400 hp. For the road-going example however, it could be further tuned to 420 hp. Whatever the final horsepower figure is, power will be inevitably sent through all four wheels.
It is believed that the car will be based around the upcoming facelift Volkswagen Golf due to hit the market in 2017. While that means we won’t see the Golf R420 on the streets for a couple of years, it is definitely promising to be a car worth waiting for!
