Following last year’s announcement from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles that Ferrari will be spun off and hit the stock exchange, the Italian marque has just filed the required paperwork and documents with the Securities and Exchange Commission. This is the first step in the iconic supercar manufacturer going public.
Unfortunately, the paperwork fails to reveal just when Ferrari’s IPO will take place. With that being said, it is predicted to come sometime in October. The documents also don’t revealed how many shares will be offered or how much they will cost. For the moment, it has been confirmed that Santander, BofA Merrill Lynch and UBS are acting as book runners for the deal.
Whenever the Ferrari IPO happens, about 10 per cent of the company is expected to hit the market. A further 10 per cent will remain with Enzo Ferrari’s son, Piero Ferrari, while the remaining 80 per cent will be divided between Fiat Chrysler investors.
Fiat initially decided on spinning off the Italian supercar manufacturer to help fund a new investment plan valued at 48 billion euros. Additionally, Fiat Chrysler hopes to increase its vehicle deliveries to 7 million cars annually by 2018.
Earlier in the month, FCA chief executive Sergio Marchionne revealed his belief that when Ferrari hits the market, it could be valued at in excess of $11 billion. If Ferrari is indeed valued at $11 billion, it will represent approximately 60 per cent of the total value of Fiat Chrysler.

(to be renamed Ferrari N.V.), has filed a registration statement on Form F-1 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) for a proposed initial public offering of common shares currently held by FCA. The number of common shares to be offered and the price range for the proposed offering have not yet been determined, although the proposed offering is not expected to exceed 10% of the outstanding common shares. In connection with the initial public offering, Ferrari intends to apply to list its common shares on the New York Stock Exchange.
