Just after it was confirmed that the Mercedes-Benz Concept GLC Coupe will reach the production line, GTspirit has exclusively learnt that AMG Sport variants of the car will also be offered.
The Mercedes-Benz AMG Sport models are being produced to directly rival M Performance offerings from BMW as well as S branded cars from Audi. They will sit between the current AMG Sports package equipped Mercedes-Benz cars as well as full-blown AMG models. The only two revealed thus far are the Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG Sport and GLE450 AMG Sport.
It remains to be seen just how many AMG Sport variants of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe will be offered nor if any true AMG versions will also be offered.
The decision to put the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe into production comes on the back of worldwide demand for SUV models. According to Daimler AG’s board member responsible for research and Mercedes-Benz Cars development Thomas Weber, “Globally, the segment is good for 26% of the car sales and is expected to further increase. We are very confident about our future in China, where we have added 100 dealerships in 2014 and increased sales by 28% to 270,000 units. This year, the company expects to sell considerably more than 300,000 units, while also adding another 50 dealerships.”
