BMW Sports Trophy Team Brasil claimed victory at the opener of the 2015 Blancpain GT Series held at the Circuit Paul Armagnac in Nogaro. The first round of the Sprint Series saw an action-packed event where Audi and BMW drivers displayed an exhilarating level of GT racing. Audi had locked the front row during qualifying but an experienced Maxime Martin drove the BMW Z4 GT3 Team Brasil resiliently to a commanding win.
Stéphane Richelmi started from pole in the #3 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT Audi R8 LMS followed by two other Audi cars but Martin took the lead in the #77 BMW Z4 GT3, increasing the gap to over 5 seconds before pitting. A short delay in the pit lanes allowed Enzo Ide to snatch the lead from Martin who rejoined in second place.
Dirk Muller took over from Martin while Stephane Ortelli replaced Richelmi in the #3 Audi. Intense racing followed with both drivers barely 1.2 seconds apart and they crossed the line in that order, with Ide finishing third.
HTP Motorsport Bentley Continental GT3 finished fourth after a tough battle with the #333 Rinaldi Racing Ferrari, the Bentley boys claiming 12 points for the fourth place. GT Russian Team won the Pro-Am category with two Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3s which claimed the first two podium places. Fach Auto Tech filled the final spot in the podium in Pro-Am category with a Porsche 997 GT3 R.
Audi enjoyed another podium win in the Silver Cup category with the #74 Team ISR Audi R8 LMS Ultra. HTP Motorsport finished second in this class with another Bentley Continental GT3. The next Blancpain GT meeting will be held this Saturday, April 11, at Monza – this will be the first round of the Blancpain Endurance Series.
