Lamborghini chief executive Stephan Winkelmann has confirmed that the Italian marque could set a Nurburgring Nordschleife lap time in the recently revealed Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SV. Winkelmann confirmed the news to Road and Track.

When asked whether setting a ‘Green Hell’ lap time was on the horizon for the Aventador SV, Winkelmann said “Sure. With the last editions of the Gallardo, we were going public with the lap times to showcase how fast our car was, outpacing all the competitors in this particular segment. For sure, in the Superveloce we would have the opportunity. This is one of the options we are thinking about and maybe we will. This is a discussion point in the next few weeks. We are thinking about doing this.

“And also, it has to be something you can sell in a positive way. Because you know that the point of the Nürburgring, the Nordschleife in general, is that you cannot have official times. No one can control what you’re doing. A lot of manufacturers are showing lap times that are made out of partial timings. The best or the sum of all the time … there is no official control or stamp on the times.

“Nurburgring is seen as the racetrack among all of them, but it depends also on the car. You have cars that are better on a handling track. We’ll see what we want to showcase” Winkelmann said.

In case you didn’t know, the Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SV’s 6.5-litre V12 engine gets a modest power boost of 50 hp together with a weight reduction of 50 kg. The top speed is now 350 km/h and the 0-100 km/h time drops, as mentioned, from 2.9 seconds to 2.8 seconds. Torque remains at 507 lb-ft at 5,500 rpm and peak rpm rises to 8,500 rpm.
