Chris-Harris-cars-of-the-year-2014

There are only a handful of automotive journalists known to most petrol heads and three of them come from Top Gear. The fourth is Chris Harris who with the rise of the internet and video reviews, has filled us with hours of skids, expertly crafted reviews and brilliant displays of car control. With that in mind, we have decided to gather our Top 10 Chris Harris Reviews in recent years for your viewing pleasure and here they are in no particular order!

McLaren P1

Certainly one of Harris’ most recognisable rather recent video reviews was when he headed to the Yas Marina circuit to drive the potent McLaren P1. Driving the exact same example we had the pleasure of driving early last year, this is unquestionably the most comprehensive and thrilling P1 review going around!

Ferrari LaFerrari

Next up is monkey’s test of the fastest and most powerful road-going Ferrari ever produced; the LaFerrari. The near 15-minute review includes Harris driving a bright red LaFerrari on the streets of Italy as well as the Italian marque’s Fiorano test facility. Yes, so much yes.

Porsche 918 Spyder

Chris Harris is one of just a lucky few to have driven all three of the hybrid hypercars having also driven the Porsche 918 Spyder at Spain’s Valencia race track. With a total of 887 hp being delivered from its high-revving V8 engine and two electric motors, the 918 might be the least powerful of the hybrid hypercar trio but it does hold the Nurburgring lap record for globally homologated road cars.

Porsche 911 GT3 vs Aston Martin V12 Vantage S vs Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series

Next up is an awesome comparison test between the 991-generation Porsche 911 GT3, Aston Martin V12 Vantage S and the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series. While the three aren’t direct rivals, they are all extreme, track-focused versions of their respective base models. With the following test being conducted on the road and on track, it is certainly one of the finest films he has produced!

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

With a title reading ‘Killing Tires With a Ferrari F12’, this review is just as epic as you’d expect with expensive tyres being shredded in one of Ferrari’s finest ever supercars. With a screaming V12 engine delivering 740 hp and five individual sets of tyres as well as the Angelsey Circuit, supercar reviews don’t get much better than this!

Ferrari F40 vs Ferrari F50

This is certainly one of the most extraordinary comparison tests captured on film with a Ferrari F40 pitted against its successor, the F50 on track. Individually the F40 is considered one of the greatest ever driver’s cars and understandably, Harris considers this one of the best days of his life. We don’t blame him!

Pagani Huayra

Just a few days ago, we exclusively revealed that the Pagani Huayra’s 100 unit production run had sold out. Only some of the leading motoring organisations have ever driven the Huayra (including us!) and Chris drove a red example in 2012. With a twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre AMG-sourced V12 engine, 730 hp and rear-wheel drive, this is the definition of what a supercar should be.

Ferrari 458 Spider

After being banned from official Ferrari press launches for a number of years, our favourite auto journalist did manage to get the keys to a Ferrari 458 Spider in early January 2013. Because the clip came out a year after most reviews, Harris decided to spice things up with some extreme slides in the 458 Spider and when combined with some sensational camera angles, this is the perfect way to spend 5 minutes!

Porsche 962

Alongside testing some of the finest road cars, Harris has also had the privilege of piloting some exceptionally rare and successful racing cars. One of the most notable was a Le Mans winning Porsche 962 prototype, one of just 96 examples ever created. When combined with an empty Weissach test track, this truly is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 vs BMW M3 GTS vs Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series

In a similar vein to the previous GT3 vs Vantage S vs C63 AMG test, this triple comparison between the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0, BMW M3 GTS and the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series once again is one of Harris’s finest. All three are extreme, relatively lightweight and exceptionally fast. What more could you want?

Ferrari 458 Speciale vs Porsche 911 GT3

Okay, we lied, there were just too many videos to narrow down to a Top 10 so here is an extra. A comparison test between the stripped-down Ferrari 458 Speciale and the Porsche 911 GT3 on track. Need we say more?
