Just after Mercedes-Benz hinted at the possibility of a range-topping Mercedes-Maybach SUV hitting the market, a rendering of a Mercedes-Benz GLS based Maybach variant has been released online.
The recently spied Mercedes-Benz GLS is the most likely current Mercedes-Benz SUV to receive a Maybach derivative. As it stands, the GLS doesn’t actually exist and is known simply as the GL, but when the next-generation model arrives in 2017, it will not only feature a refreshed design and a selection of mechanical changes, but also wear the GLS nameplate.

If a Mercedes-Maybach GLS is created, it will target future luxury offroaders like the Bentley Bentagya and Maserati Levante.
When the Mercedes-Benz GLS does launch, it is expected to initially be available in GLS350, GLS400, GLS550 and GLS63 AMG variants. Additionally, a Mercedes-Benz GLS400 will be available with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine delivering 333 hp and making for a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 6.7 seconds and a 240 km/h top speed.
