Mercedes-Benz Media Night

The Mercedes-Benz Media Night at the Detroit Motor Show 2015 recently wrapped up before the show opens to the press in less than six hours. The Mercedes-Benz Media Night saw the worldwide debuts of the 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, Mercedes-AMG GLE63 AMG Coupe, Mercedes-Benz C350 Plug-in Hybrid and the Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG 4Matic.

Starting with the Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG 4Matic, it boasts a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine. It delivers the same 362 hp at 5500 rpm and 382 lb-ft of torque between 2000 and 4200 rpm as the GLE450 AMG Coupe. As the name suggests, this power is sent through all four wheels via the company’s 4Matic all-wheel drive system via a 7G-Tronic seven-speed gearbox. This transmission has been slightly tweaked for use in the C450 AMG 4Matic compared to the AMG C63.

As for the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe range, it has so far been revealed in GLE450 AMG Coupe and GLE63 AMG Coupe guise. Under the skin the 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 AMG Coupe is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine delivering an impressive 362 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. As for the GLE63 Coupe, it uses a 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8 which has been tweaked and fettled to now deliver a total of 577 hp at 5500 rpm and 560 lb-ft between 1750 and 5250 rpm in GLE 63 S Coupe specification.

Finally we have the Mercedes-Benz C350 Plug-in Hybrid. It is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine mated to a brushless electric motor found within the gearbox housing. All told, the C350 Plug-in Hybrid delivers a total of 275 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque with 80 hp and 251 lb-ft of that being produced by the electric motor alone. Drive is then sent to the rear wheels via a 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmission which utilises an automated clutch.
