Not too long ago, Cadillac revealed a brand new naming strategy set to start with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class rivalling Cadillac CT6 luxury sedan. In line with this new nomenclature, the American automaker has trademarked 13 brand new model names.

As part of the company’s new naming scheme, Cadillac car models will start with CT followed by a number while Cadillac SUVs and crossovers will start with XT and then a number. Consequently, the firm has trademarked CT2, CT3, CT4, CT5, CT7 and CT8 as well as XT2, XT3, XT4, XT5, XT6, XT7 and XT8.

While there’s certainly a possibility these trademarks are precautionary, there is a chance Cadillac is planning 13 all-new models to complete replace its current line-up. The only Cadillac we know of so far set to receive one of these recently trademarked names will be the CT8. It will sit above the luxurious CT6 and act as a long-wheelbase variant to rival stretched S-Class models.
