In a last ditch effort to stay afloat, the Caterham F1 Team has just launched a crowdfunding campaign to help the team return to the season finale in Abu Dhabi.

The campaign hopes to raise 2.35 million pounds and as it stands, just over 320,000 pounds have been raised courtesy of 780 backers. As a result, the Caterham F1 Team has just less than one week to raise the remaining 2 million pounds.

To entice people to get behind the campaign, a selection of different donation options and rewards are offered. If you donate 40 pounds for example, you’ll be rewarded with a special edition Caterham F1 Team baseball cap. Elsewhere, a 500 pound donation will get you a pair of pit team overalls. Interestingly, the 2500 and 3000 pound donation options where you are rewarded with a front wing or rear wing are sold out.

The most expensive options sits at 45,000 pounds and provides a corporate hospitality package which will allow the buyer to enjoy the Abu Dhabi grand prix in the firm’s hospitality suite for three days.

Discussing the crowdfunding, Caterham Sports Limited administrator and interim Caterham F1 Team principal Finbarr O’Connell said, “We are working non-stop to get the Caterham F1 Team back racing, initially in Abu Dhabi, but hopefully that will be just a stepping stone to get it back racing on a permanent basis, under new ownership. In order to achieve that one of our most useful, innovative and effective options right now is crowdfunding.

“We want to get as many sponsors and fans as possible involved this week and make our comeback something we can all be part of. This team deserves a future and I’m sure that there are plenty of fans and companies out there that agree with us, so I can’t think of a better way to get us all together and show our support to the team than this one, the Caterham F1 Team #RefuelCaterhamF1 project,” he said.

If the target is not hit, all of those who have pledged funds will be refunded.
