Photo of the Day: Gulf Liveried Ford GT40

It is hard to say with complete accuracy just how many Ford GT40s there are finished with a Gulf Racing livery. Additionally, the fact that so many replicas and recreations have been made makes it even harder to determine. Whatever the number, we know that each and every one of them looks spectacular and the following example is no exception.

In total, five different variations of the Ford GT40 racing car were created. These were the Mk I, Mk II, Mk III, Mk IV and the Mirage. Original Mk I GT40’s utilised a 4.7-litre V8 engine but later models found power from a 7.0-litre V8. As for the Mk II, it also came with a 7.0-litre V8 while the Mk III moved back down to a retuned 4.7-litre V8 delivering 306 hp. As for the Mk IV, it produced an impressive 500 hp at 6400 rpm and 470 lb-ft at 5000 rpm from its 7.0-litre V8. Finally, the Mirage had a 5.7-litre V8.
