The U.S. market is currently the largest for German automaker Porsche. However, it has emerged that China could soon overtake the U.S. as the firm’s largest market by the end of this year.

In September, a total of 4344 Porsche models were sold in China representing a 54 per cent increase over the same month last year. By comparison, 3607 Porsches were sold in the United States last month. Despite China’s impressive September, about 3000 more Porsche cars have been sold in the U.S. this year with 35,366 the current figure.

While speaking with Motor Trend about the current sales trends, the company’s sales and marketing chief Bernhard Maier said, “The U.S. performed very well this year, after a great year in 2013, but China is growing fast, thanks to the Cayenne which is our best seller there.”
