Porsche has just purchased the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in South Africa for a relatively cheap $19.4 million.
The exceptional race track has held numerous Formula One races in the past and was expected to ignite a bidding war among interested parties. However, Porsche managed to walk away with the race track in just a few minutes.
Prior to the auction, there were some concerns that a developer could purchase the track and build office and commercial buildings in its place. However, Porsche will retain the race track but any plans it has beyond that remain unclear.
While the track will inevitably be improved by Porsche, it is unlikely that it will be used for Formula One in the future.
