2018 Audi A8 Spied Testing

The very first prototype of the next-generation 2018 Audi A8 has been spied testing for the first time. While on the surface this prototype looks like the most recent facelifted A8, it is in fact testing the mechanicals of the new car including the brand new MLB Evo platform created by Audi.

The new platform was previously shown on the Audi Sport Quattro Concept and will make its debut in the new Audi Q7 due to be released next year. As the name suggests, the MLB Evo platform replaces the current MLB platform used by Audi and numerous other firm’s within the Volkswagen Group.

Because this mule is smartly disguised as the current car, very little can be said about the next-generation A8’s design. With that being said, the front air intakes on this prototype are slightly larger than the current car. Elsewhere, we expect to see an evolution of the current design rather than a revolutionary new image and personality.

Weight reduction will also be a key focus for the new Audi A8 with the MLB Evo platform helping to strip off weight from the current car. From an engine standpoint, expect engines including V6, V8 and W12 units. Additionally, a plug-in hybrid variant is inevitable.
