Toyota and BMW to Create Porsche 911 Rivalling Sports Cars?

It is absolutely no secret that Toyota and BMW are currently working together to create two new sports cars. However, according to the latest reports, the collaboration could stretch much further than a simple entry-level sports car or two.

If Car Magazine is to be believed, the two automotive powerhouses are said to be working on a complete range of sports cars to rival the Porsche 911. The project is reportedly codenamed as Silk Road 2 and it is believed that the BMW which could be spawned may be dubbed the BMW Z7 while the Toyota end of the deal could take the form of the Lexus ZC/ZR.

It is believed that the Toyota and BMW sports cars we’ve known about for quite some time will respectively replace the BMW Z4 and Toyota GT86. However, the two Porsche 911 rivalling sports cars will be on an entirely new level.

It is speculated that both the BMW Z7 and Lexus ZC/ZR will utilise the same 3.0-litre inline-six cylinder engine developed by BMW. Featuring two turbochargers and mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission as well as a 150 hp electric motor, both sports cars will occupy the 400 to 500 hp bracket. Both will come with composite brakes as standard, adjustable double-wishbone suspension, active aerodynamics and electric power steering.
