Evo Drives Jaguar F-Type V8 S Through Romania

Last year, we had the amazing opportunity to drive the awesome Jaguar F-Type V8 S. As you would imagine it was a truly incredible car to drive and the new F-Type Coupe R is set to be even more thrilling. While we eagerly await to review the new F-Type Coupe, Evo Magazine recently headed to Romania in a red Jaguar F-Type V8 S to check out the stunning driving roads there.

If you’re a Top Gear enthusiast, you’ll likely remember the trio heading to the Transfargarasan Highway and calling it the world’s greatest driving road back in 2009. However, Evo’s Henry Catchpole wasn’t so convinced and headed to the Transalpina road also in Romania to test it out.

Interestingly, the Transalpina road was simply gravel when Top Gear last visited in 2009. However, in 2012, the entire road was asphalted and consequently has a perfectly smooth surface as you’d expect.

As for the Jaguar F-Type V8 S, it creates the perfect soundtrack for such an incredible road. It gets the same familiar 5.0 litre Jaguar unit as we have seen in cars like the Jaguar XKR, XFR and XJ Super Sport. It is slightly detuned for the F-Type, producing 495 hp rather than the 510 hp we have become accustomed to. Yet the F-Type is a lighter, smaller package and can in fact feel every bit as fast on the road. The F-Type V8 S reaches a limited top speed of 186 mph with 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds.
