In addition to working on a brand new BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class rival in the shape of the Jaguar XS as well as a production version of the C-X17 Crossover, Jaguar has confirmed the development of two other models.
While speaking with Autocar, Jaguar’s design director Ian Callum revealed that the company is working on the next-generation Jaguar XF as well as the next-gen XJ sedan. The next-generation Jaguar XF is likely to arrive sometime in 2016 with the new XJ following soon after. From a visual perspective, we can expect to see the new XF and XJ sedans featuring design traits from the F-Type and C-X17 concept.
While we may only have to wait 2-3 years for a new XF, the XJ is a little further off with the current car set to receive a facelift next year.
As it stands, the most potent Jaguar XJ variant is the XJR. The XJR features Jaguar’s signature engine, the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine. In the XJR this engine delivers 550hp at 6500 RPM and 680Nm of torque between 2,500 and 5,500 RPM. Up 40hp and 55Nm of torque compared to the XJ Supersports. With the uprated engine and the optimized setup of the 8-speed ZF gearbox the XJR propels from 0-100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds and continues to an electronically limited top speed of 280 km/h.
