So as it turns out, the regular 2014 Nissan GT-R Nismo offered to customers and the press isn’t capable of matching the 7 minute and 8 second lap time the prototype achieved at the Nurburgring. Why is this? Well, it has been discovered that the record-setting Nissan GT-R Nismo was fitted with the optional Time Attack package.
The Time Attack equipped 2014 Nissan GT-R Nismo differs from the regular Nissan GT-R Nismo in that it features a much larger rear wing creating more rear downforce, super lightweight bucket seats reducing weight by 50 kg, different dampers and brake pads as well as a new ECU map. Additionally, it has been revealed that the 2014 Nissan GT-R Nismo used for the record-setting Nurburgring run featured specifically tuned suspension for the bumpy surface of the ‘Ring. However, we shouldn’t be surprised by that final point as it is only understandable for the company to put their best foot forward when lapping the infamous German circuit.

Other than these details, little is known about the 2014 Nissan GT-R Nismo Time Attack car, but the additional options will likely be available from launch of the regular GT-R Nismo. So how fast can the regular Nissan GT-R Nismo lap ‘Green Hell’? Well, we will probably never know but one could only imagine it being a couple of seconds slower.
