Could the TMG Sports 650 Concept Reach Production?

Late last year, the Lexus LS 460 based TMG Sports 650 Concept was finally revealed. Created by Toyota Motorsport GmbH, the TMG Sports 650 Concept was built purely to showcase the capabilities of TMG in creating AMG, RS and ///M rivalling cars in the future.

At its launch it was initially conceived as a one off, but Toyota boss Akio Toyoda was so impressed with it he commissioned 10 vehicles. One of them was for him to keep and the rest for his nine closest friends. However, reports have emerged suggesting that a production variant of the TMG Sports 650 Concept is currently in the works and that it will be based on the next-generation Lexus LS due out sometime in 2015.

If that were the case, then Lexus could have a real Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG and BMW M5 competitor. After all, the upcoming Lexus GS F is currently expected to feature a 5.0-liter V8 producing just 465 hp. That is a bleak prospect considering the BMW M5 delivers 552 hp from its twin-turbocharged V8 engine!

If the TMG Sports 650 Concept were to make it to the production line, it would significantly improve on that figure. The original features a 5.0 liter 650hp-strong V8 engine, intended to achieve a top speed of 320km/h via an eight-speed high-torque-capacity transmission. The maximum performance is achieved at 6,500rpm with a maximum torque of 765Nm at 5,460rpm. Naught to 100km/h is done 3.9 seconds.
