At previous editions of Curbstone Track Events we saw that the definite drivers favorite is still Porsche. Most that attend trackdays still choose the classic GT3 as their weapon of choice. Naturally there were plenty on display, yet we also spotted a 996 Turbo and a 997 Turbo S, a Panamera GTS and a Cayman S.
Definitely most eye-catching were the 991 GT3 Cup cars. This is the latest generation of dedicated Porsche racers. It was only officially introduced in December last year, yet it has already joined several racing teams and enjoyed success.
The 991 GT3 Cup comes equipped with a 3.8 liter six-cylinder flat engine. It generates 460 hp at 7,500rpm, surpassing its predecessor by 10hp. A six-speed gearbox developed by Porsche Motorsport which is operated via shift paddles at the steering wheel. This is a first for a Porsche brand trophy race car. Power is routed to the rear axle.
