The new Caterham sports car being jointly developed with Renault which is set to join the new Renault Alpine sports car to compete with the Lotus Evora and Alfa Romeo 4C, is now expected to be unveiled in concept form in the first half of 2014.
With such information, a concept debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2014 is likely. While the Caterham-Renault and the Alpine-Renault will share various components including the overall platform, the 2014 Caterham-Renault is expected to look dramatically different and “distinctively British”. Consequently, don’t expect the Caterham-Renault and Alpine-Renault to be at all like the Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT 86 twins which are almost identical.
The new 2014 Caterham-Renault sports car is currently being developed in part by Renaultsport’s factory in Dieppe and Caterham’s main facility in the U.K. In fact, Renault and Caterham recently signed-off on a new joint ownership of the Dieppe factory.
No powerplant details have been released just yet, but it’s expected that the Caterham will have slightly less power than the Alpine-Renault which could feature a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing upwards of 280hp. Rest assured however that the 2014 Caterham-Renault sports car will have more than 200hp.
While the two sports cars could share the same chassis and running gear, they’re expected to receive different engines with Toyota and Mazda both likely candidates to partner with Caterham.
