Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo has revealed that under his leadership, Ferrari will not produce any purely electric vehicles, sedans or even the long-speculated Ferrari SUV.
Luca di Montezemolo insisted that neither of these vehicles would fit the Ferrari brand saying, “Our emphasis is on our heritage and expertise. We will manufacturer new models in the future, but the market position of them will always begin with where we stand with relation to our history.”
The chairman then insisted that there is currently no need for it to move away from its current supercar and GT line-up citing the ever expanding Maserati range as the perfect alternative for those interested in sedans and SUVs.
“People ask me if my insistence on selling no more than 7000 Ferraris will harm our brand, but I don’t believe so,” said Montezemolo. “They also ask me about a four-door car or SUV, and I point them in the direction of Maserati.”
