If the McLaren MP4-12C can be criticized for one thing when compared to its main rival, the Ferrari 458 Italia, it’s the fact that in stock form, it’s twin-turbocharged V8 simply doesn’t produce an exhaust note to rival the snarling symphony produced by the Ferrari’s 4.5 liter V8 powerplant.
However, in late 2011, McLaren answered the call of many critics by optimising the exhaust note in all standard MP4-12C’s while also pushing the installation of the firm’s optional sports exhaust package which the following silver MP4-12C has been fitted with.
The new sports exhaust package helps the car pack an auditory punch which in stock form can’t be competed with and is most obvious when driving around at low rpm’s when the British supercar still manages pump out an impressive amount of soundwaves into the surrounding environment.
