This is the new upcoming 2013 Porsche Boxster. Following the release of the Porsche 991 Carrera S and its open-top family member, the Boxster is next in the new lineup of the German sports car manufacturer. The third Generation should be available from April 2012 and offer a lighter body, a longer wheelbase and several new features.

Like the 991, the Boxster offers a new design edge at the front and rear similar to the Porsche 918 Spyder. The wheelbase grew by 6 inches. The front track increased by 4 inches, back to one centimeter. The 981 model is lighter compared to the previous 987. The empty weight has been reduced by 35 kilograms.

The base model comes standard with 18 inch wheels instead of the current 17 inches. The optional dynamic driving dynamics benefits a mechanical rear axle bearings and gears with torque vectoring. The new Boxster will also get 911’s Electric Power Steering.

The Porsche Boxster S gets a 315hp-strong six-cylinder boxer engine, which is only five horsepower more than before. The consumption has been reduced by 15 precent to 8.0 liters per 100km. The revised seven-speed PDK has the sailing functionality from the 911 and the Panamera. The manual gearbox features but not seven like its bigger brother, but “only” six gears. The Boxster S sprints in 5.0 seconds from 0 to 100km/h. The standard Boxster gets a 2.7 liter direct injection boxer engine with 265hp and a sprint time of 5.7 seconds. Both engines and gearboxes are equipped with start-stop systems.

On the inside, the Boxster 981 got a new center console a la Carrera GT, quite similar to the new 911 interior. The 981 has an opening fabric roof, which opens in nine seconds at a maximum speed of 50km/h. The frame is made of magnesium or aluminum. A heated glass rear window provides a clear view, a windbreak will cost an additional charge.

The starting price is expected to be around € 1,300 higher than before. The new Boxster will be released at the Geneva Motor Show 2012 in March and is available in showrooms around mid-April.
