A major restructuring of the McLaren Group is one of the key subjects for 2009. The carmarker from Woking, Surrey (UK) will be divided into several parts. McLaren Automotive is one of these divisions becoming a new independent company working on the upcoming P11. The P11 is aiming at the successes of the McLaren F1 and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren produced for Daimler.

McLaren speaks about the production of a thousand cars in 2011. In 2015 they want to produce at least 4000 low-volume sport cars in a line-up with several vehicles. Pricing will extend Italian carmarkers as Lamborghini and Ferrari. The newly developed P11 will be top of the range.

This mid-engined two-seater has been spotted numerous times and will have several interesting features like high-mounted exhausts, a flat underpan, louvred grille and the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) used on Formula1 cars.
