Porsche 911 Turbo

Yesterday we reported on the facelift version of the 997 911 GT3 testing somewhere in the mountains. Today we have something totally new thanks to Car, some spyshots of the brand new 2011 911 testing at the Nurburgring. Not only have they managed to get pictures of the development mule, they also managed to get some interesting information on the plans at Porsche for the new model from Porsches Research and Development Chief Wolfgang Dürheimer.

The new 911 is known internally as the 991 and will be “even more competent, even sexier, even more unique” according to Wolfgang. It appears that the design will stay much the same, three claims were however made by the chief, firstly that the car will do without side mirrors, secondly the front will be redesigned to meet new pedestrian safety standards and thirdly a redisign of the rear will bring greater aerodynamics. Active aerodynamics will also feature largly with the front and rear spoiler layouts.

Manual and Automatic (the new PDK Dual Clutch system) will be available on the car, they also hope to reduce kerb-weight by 10% and therefore fuel consumption. He also hinted that Porsche could work with Audi ect., “But why should the Panamera genes not reappear in an Audi A8 coupé?”

These are just early speculations from the Porsche Research and Development Chief but he does seem adament about a number of things including the decision to loose the side mirrors. These could be replaced with a camera which would presumably increase aerodynamics. Let us know what you guys think in the comment box below.
