It was victory all around the Mercedes-AMG camp during the Blancpain GT Series season opener at the Misano World Circuit in Italy. The HTP Motorsport owned #84 Mercedes-AMG GT3 crossed the finish line first, driven by the pole sitters Maxi Buhk and Franck Perera. Behind them came the Bentley Boys, Vincent Abril and Steven Kane who crossed the finish line some 23s later.
HTP Motorsport had a lot more to be happy about, with a double podium courtesy of Jimmy Eriksson and Dominik Baumann in the #86 car. Fourth place also went to a Mercedes-AMG GT3, this time the #88 car of AKKA ASP driven by Felix Serralles and Daniel Juncadella.
Romain Monti and Christopher Haase gave Audi the best finish by crossing the line in fifth, driving the #26 Audi R8 LMS from Sainteloc Racing. DTM ace driver Tom Blomqvist and Philipp Eng put BMW in sixth place with the #99 Rowe Racing BMW M6 GT3, followed by the #98 sister car of Jesse Krohn, Markus Palttala.
Strakka Racing came home eighth in the #59 McLaren 650S GT3 driven by Andrew Watson and Rob Bell. Behind them was the #63 GRT Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini Huracan GT3. Team WRT’s #3 Audi R8 LMS rounded off the top ten.
HTP Motorsport was back on the podium this time in the Silver Cup thanks to Fabian Schiller and Jules Szymkowia who finished first in the #85 Mercedes-AMG GT3. Strakka Motorsport grabbed second place in this class with the #42 McLaren 650S GT3 driven by Nick Leventis and Lewis Williamson.
Ferrari won the Pro-Am class thanks to Rinaldi Racing with the #333 Ferrari 488 GT3 driven by Alexander Mattschull and Daniel Keilwitz. Kessel Racing was second in this class, in yet another Ferrari 488 GT3 while AKKA ASP grabbed the final Pro-AM podium spot with the #89 Mercedes-AMG GT3.
The next meeting will mark round one of the Endurance Cup at Monza on April 22.
