Our car of the day for today is an absolute blast from the past: the Porsche 993 GT2. The German legend from the 90’s was the real deal back in the day and still is we must acknowledge, just last month another original 993 GT2 sold for a record $2.4 million.

It’s fair to say that petrolheads and car lovers weren’t just in the market for a 993 GT2 back in the day, but it’s still a very much anticipated model and we completely understand why. If its sleek and dynamic looks don’t win you over – I mean, just look at that wing – then the car’s magnificent flat six engine must make some sort of impact on you.

Visually the GT2 borrows its style from the Carrera RS, a car that for many of the same reasons also sells for insane amounts at auctions in present day. Under the hood however, the GT2 is far more extreme. 430 bhp was made available thanks to a higher boost pressure compared to the conventional turbo. In the 1998 model year Porsche even stepped it up a notch by adding a twin-ignition, bringing the GT2’s output to 450 bhp.

That and rear-wheel drive.. Don’t get us started on the race versions, which at its peak delivered up to 600 bhp (450 kW)! Now check out this lovely photo gallery of a silver Porsche 993 GT2 from the guys over at BBi Autosport.
