This set of spy shots shows Corvette’s upcoming monster, the new ZR1, testing on open roads in the US. Corvette’s future range topper is to exceed the performance of the Z06 on every level and is expected to make an entrance next year.

The upcoming 2018 Corvette ZR1 will be all about ruthless power. A supercharged V8 producing over 700 hp should push the new ZR1 forward with brute force. How that immense power will be routed to the supercar’s rear wheels remains to be seen.

Rumors are a manual transmission will be featured in the upcoming Corvette ZR1, while inheriting the 10-speed automatic transmission from the current Z06 hasn’t been ruled out either.

The prototype captured in this gallery differs from earlier seen ZR1 prototype’s on multiple aspects. For instance it doesn’t have the large rear spoiler that was seen on other ZR1 test subjects, as well as a more aggressive looking aerodynamics kit has been spotted earlier to keep the car’s handling in check.
