Tesla has developed a 100 kWh battery pack for the Model S sedan and Model X crossover, boosting both the performance and the range of the full electric cars.

When equipped with Tesla’s optional ‘Ludicrous’ mode, the 100 kWh Model S P100D will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds and from 0-100 mph in 2.7 seconds. This makes it the third-fastest accelerating production car ever, behind the Porsche 918 Spyder and LaFerrari.

The Model S P100D will also add an additional 45-miles of range over the P90D for a total EPA-estimated range of 315 miles. It provides a slightly smaller improvement in the heavier Model X, adding 39 miles of range for a total of 289 miles.

Tesla fans that have ordered the high-performance Model S or Model X P90D and have not received their car yet can upgrade to the even faster P100D for an additional $10,000. The full price of a Model S P100D with Ludicrous mode will start at $134,000, while the Model X P100D will ask $141,000.
