A new report has surfaced claiming that the refreshed BMW i8 will receive more power and a longer range.

While the new i8 is not scheduled to hit showrooms until the fourth quarter of next year, news is already circulating regarding the changes BMW will introduce.

The new car will receive more power according to BMW engineers. The current car produces 129 hp from its electric motor. The new car will have a more powerful unit. The 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine will also receive some slight tuning to increase power. Most the upgrades, however, will come from the electric unit.

Total output for the facelifted i8 is said to be around 420 hp.

Total electric driving range will also be improved thanks to the addition of a new battery pack system. No word on what the new range will be, however BMW engineers have been reportedly saying to expect incremental increases in range.

We will keep you updated as more details about the i8 begin to surface as we get closer to launch.
