Just to fulfill your daily dose of ‘WTF’ news, you might be interested in what a Canadian Official thinks about future driving and autonomous cars. Canadian officials released a report indicating a number of reasons why they think autonomous driving leads to more distraction behind the wheel.
By far the most ‘interesting’ cause for distraction is reportedly ‘sex behind the wheel’. “I am predicting that, once computers are doing the driving, there will be a lot more sex in cars,” Barrie Kirk of the Canadian Automated Vehicles Centre of Excellence, told CBC News.
It mainly applies to the current state of semi-autonomous driving cars, where in the case of Tesla’s autopilot drivers still need to be alert at all times and intervene if necessary. It’s with a similar statement that Tesla Motors tell customers to indeed keep their hands in close proximity of the steering wheel at all times.
In this regard, Kirk is concerned that a distracted driver may not be able to take over vehicle controls when needed: “People will not be able to respond in time.”
Do you think ‘sex behind the wheel’ will be a legitimate issue in the future?
