An excellent assortment of spy photos of the next-generation BMW 3-Series have been released!

The 2018 3-Series, which is codenamed G20, will be an entirely new car for BMW with the main goal being to close the gap between the latest offerings from rivals Mercedes-Benz.

The 3-series is BMW’s most popular model, outselling all other models by a significant margin. As such, BMW is aiming for the new 3-series to be the benchmark for the small luxury sedan segment.

While we can’t learn much from the spy photos, we can get a sense of the general shape and styling of the car. It appears as though the new 3-series will take on evolutionary styling cues from the current generation rather than coming out with an entirely new design. Looking through the window we can see what appears to be a digital dash display, which will more than likely be mated to a brand-new infotainment system complete with gesture control and voice activation.

Powertrains for the new 3-series will likely remain similar to those currently available. That means you can expect in-line four and six-cylinder engines displaying 2.0 and 3.0 liters, respectively. BMW will likely introduce its 3-cylinder engine for other markets besides the United States.

The 2018 BMW 3-Series will make its debut next year. We will keep you posted as more info becomes available.
