The new BMW M2 and X4 M40i are set for their grand unveiling at next year’s Detroit Motor Show. While we secretly hoped to have our first hands-on experience with the all-new BMW M2 at the 2015 IAA in Frankfurt, this occasion was saved for the most important North-American motor show of the year.

The 2016 BMW M2 coupé is set to follow up the last generation 1 Series M Coupé, otherwise known as the 1M. The fresh looking Bavarian sports car carries a 3.0-litre V6 outputting 365hp and a max of 465 N.m. of torque. A sprint to 100 km/h takes the M2 just 4.2 seconds and its top speed is electronically limited at 250 km/h. That is, if you don’t opt for the M sports package. The optional M sports package ensures that the meter keeps on going until 270 km/h.

While BMW is already taking orders for the new BMW M2, it won’t be shining in the showroom until April 2016.

Next to the M2, the new sporty version of the BMW X4 will enjoy its official unveiling at the Detroit Motor Show in 2016. The BMW X4 M40i will also feature a 6-cylinder engine, but outputs 10hp less than its motor show wingman. Besides outputting 355hp, the new compact SUV has 465 N.m. of torque. Top speed is electronically limited at 150 miles per hour or approximately 240 km/h and an acceleration to a 100 km/h will take the SUV no more than 4.7 seconds, which is quite impressive indeed.

The first BMW X4 M40i are expected to be appearing in U.S. showrooms by February 2016. Pricing is expected to be released just weeks before that. Together with the new BMW M2 and X4 M40i, BMW promises a full stage by also showing the new BMW 330e, 740e, X1 and the BMW i8.
