Video: Nissan GT-Rs Bonnet Flies Off at 290 km/h!

Drag racing carries with it both some obvious and not-so-obvious risks. One of those more interesting risks is having your bonnet go skyward from the car in the middle of a drag race and in the U.S. recently, one unlucky Nissan GT-R driver experienced just that.

While travelling at in excess of 290 km/h and racing a twin-turbocharged Lamborghini Gallardo with over 2100 hp, the carbon fibre bonnet of the 1600 hp GT-R was completely ripped off near the end of the race.

Rather amazingly, the entire hood latch was torn from the frame of the Japanese sports car and went spiralling up into the air.

Fortunately for us, it was all captured on tape including from a GoPro mounted to the windscreen!
