A source within Cadillac has revealed to Automobile Magazine that an even more powerful version of the 2016 CTS-V is in the works.

Currently, the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V produces a class-leading 640 hp thanks to its use of the Corvette Z06’s 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine. It is ultimately 80 hp more powerful than the BMW M5 and has an 83 hp advantage over the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG. However, new generations of both the M5 and E63 AMG are in the works so Cadillac is preparing to answer them with even more power.

According to the source “The Cold War continues. I don’t know where it stops, but it’s not at 640 hp, that’s for sure.”

Mated to the CTS-V potent Corvette engine is an eight-speed automatic transmission with magnetic suspension, an electronic limited-slip differential, Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres and large Brembo brakes also featuring.

As the new M5 and E63 AMG are unlikely to arrive until 2018 at the earliest, Cadillac has a few years up its sleeve to ensure the CTS-V remains the most potent car in its class.
