A rare Lamborghini Diablo VT has been severely damaged by fire in Essex in the United Kingdom.

This particular Diablo VT is one of just 30 units produced in right-hand drive and was imported to its current owner from New Zealand. The British owner has only owned the Italian supercar for a year and is now facing a hefty repair bill.

While speaking with the Mirror, the driver claims that he saw black smoke coming from the rear-end before stopping on the road. Soon after, the inferno took hold of the engine bay.

“I was coming round the corner at the roundabout at Queens Road when I started to see smoke coming out of the back. I thought it was the clutch and then it started to go away….I got out, called the fire service – who were really quick in arriving. The whole of the back was alight with flames coming out of the hole in the back.”

While the blaze was extinguished by the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, the owner claims that his insurance company has already deemed it a write off. However, he said that he will try to buy it off the insurance company.
