The new Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan is set to arrive in the United Kingdom in September 2016 following its recent public debut at the ongoing IAA Frankfurt Motor Show 2015.

No pricing details for the Giulia have been released but with it directly rivalling the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, it will inevitably be priced similarly. It is of course a pivotally important car for the Italian automaker with it leading the charge of Alfa Romeo’s global relaunch and its attempt to reach 400,000 annual sales by the end of 2018.

While Alfa Romeo has only unveiled the Giulia in range-topping QV guise so far, it is already shaping up to be a worthy rival to the 3-Series and C-Class. As a testament to this, it recently lapped the Nurburgring Nordschleife in just 7 minutes and 39 seconds, making it a full 13 seconds faster than the F80-generation BMW 3-Series.

Powering the Giulia QV is a Ferrari-developed 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine delivering a total of 503 hp, exactly the same as the C63 S. Thanks to this power, the Italian sedan accelerates to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds and thanks to the lightweight body of the Giulia QV, the car produces a power-to-weight ratio of 3 kg per hp.

It remains to be seen what other engines will be offered for the Giulia. With that being said, the Italian company confirmed earlier in the year that it was working on both a new four-cylinder as well as a diesel V6.
