An SUV was always part of Jaguar’s master plan and the F-Pace has now been officially unveiled ahead of the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show 2015. It is made available in a variety of different specs and with a number of different engines, featuring aluminium construction and a sporty design.

The design looks very similar to the C-X17 concept. It gets Jaguar’s lightweight aluminium architecture, which is different to every other Jaguar, despite getting the modular structure. The F-Pace measures 4,731mm in length with a 2,874mm wheelbase and short overhangs. Luggage space is 650-litres. The cheapest model weighs in at just 1,665 kg.

The clean, responsive 178 hp (180 PS) 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel is the version that most will opt for thanks to its low emissions of just 129g/km. The range topping model features a supercharged 375 hp (380 PS) 3.0-litre V6 petrol with a 0-100 km/h time of just 5.5 seconds. The top diesel model is a 296 hp (300 PS) 3.0-litre V6 unit with a torque output of 700 Nm.

Underneath, the F-Pace will get double wishbone front and integral link rear suspension. This will be coupled with an all wheel drive system, Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) and several innovative features such as Torque Vectoring, Adaptive Dynamics and Configurable Dynamics. The big Jaguar also gets the All Surface Progress Control (ASPC) to help with traction in poor weather conditions.

The InControl Touch Pro is transferred directly from the XE and F-Type versions that we find pretty good. It uses a 10.2 inch tablet-style touchscreen with a Wi-Fi hotspot and 12.3 inch HD instrument cluster. Jaguar are also debuting the Activity Key: a waterproof, wearable wristband with an integrated transponder which is used to open the vehicle.

The Jaguar F-Pace First Edition will be available in limited numbers. Just 2,000 will be available worldwide with 200 allocated to the UK. They will feature the 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, a unique metallic paint colour – Caesium Blue, 22-inch Double Helix 15-spoke wheels with Grey finish and contrast inserts, Adaptive Dynamics, Adaptive LED headlights, Gloss Black fender vents and a panoramic roof.

The F-Pace will start from £34,170. There is no word on when the vehicle will be available, although we suspect the first deliveries will take place in 2016. Stay tuned for more from IAA Frankfurt Motor Show 2015.
