Despite only being unveiled early last year, Audi has just released a number of updates for the A8 L Security armoured sedan with the car now providing VR9 class ballistic protection as standard. That is the highest armouring level achievable by a civilian sedan.

Underpinning the updated 2016 Audi A8 L Security is a safety cell made from a number of special aluminium alloys, hot-formed steel armour and aramide fabric. Elsewhere, the car’s glazing is now stronger than ever also being certified as VR9 with the car capable of withstanding a number of different explosive chargers.

If customers want more protection, an emergency fresh air system can be installed as can an emergency exit system and a fire extinguishing system. Some additional standard features include selective door unlocking, an armoured communication box in the luggage compartment as well as an intercom system.

The 2016 Audi A8 L Security can be optioned with one of two engines, either a 4.0-litre TFSI V8 delivering 429 hp or a 6.0-litre W12 providing 495 hp. When optioned with the W12, it can reach a top speed of 210 km/h.
