Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that it is working on an electric vehicle to rival the ever-popular Tesla Model S.

While speaking with a German publication, the German marque’s development chief Thomas Weber confirmed that an electric Mercedes-Benz sedan is being developed. Importantly, it hasn’t been created as an answer to the Model S as the company has been developing electric cars for a number of decades. As a matter of fact, its first all-electric vehicle was unveiled way back in 1906.

Weber unsurprisingly didn’t elaborate on the company’s forthcoming electric car but did reveal that it will have a range in excess of 480 km (300 miles).

Thanks to Mercedes-Benz’s experience with producing luxurious sedans and electric technologies, Tesla should be taking notice.
