Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG spied front

New next-generation Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG spy shots have emerged as testing of the performance-oriented E-Class continues.

The most significant change between the new E63 AMG and the outgoing model will be the radically different engine. The new car, set to arrive as a 2018 model, will feature AMG’s new range-topping 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. As it stands, this engine pumps out 503 hp but for the next-generation E63 AMG, that power figure is expected to rise significantly.

In fact, reports suggest that in standard specification, the new E63 AMG should pump out around 550 hp while the range-topping AMG S model will deliver even more power and torque. Elsewhere, the next-generation E63 AMG will feature all-wheel drive as standard. Although unconfirmed, there are suggestions that the current rear-wheel drive system could be scrapped entirely.

Underpinning the new car will be an evolution of the MRA architecture currently used by the W205-generation C-Class.
