Lexus has just unveiled the brand new RC F GT Concept which it will enter in this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The car will participate in the competitive Time Attack class and race alongside a host of other cars created specifically with Pikes Peak in mind.

As the name suggests, the Lexus RC F GT Concept is based around the road-going RC F coupe and the Japanese firm says it also helps with its upcoming GT3 racing program. As a result, Lexus engineers will be able to play around with its components, settings and software to help fast forward the development of the upcoming RC F GT3 racer.

Rather incredibly, the Lexus RC F GT Concept weighs 800 kg less than the street car. Those weight savings have been achieved thanks to the use of a host of lightweight composite materials. The interior has also been gutted with new Recaro racing seats installed.

Powering the RC F GT Concept is the same 5.0-litre V8 engine as the road car but it has been tweaked specifically for Pikes Peak. Behind the wheel of the racer at the ‘Race to the clouds’ will be 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Justin Bell.

Bell said “With very little time behind the wheel, the RC F GT Concept has already proven fast and easy to drive, very much like the production models, actually. We expect the race car will only pick up pace as we engage more testing, tuning, and data acquisition on the mountain.”
