McLaren 650S Le Mans by MSO

To help celebrate the 20th anniversary of the McLaren F1 GTR taking victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the British marque has revealed the McLaren 650S Le Mans by MSO.

The car has been designed by McLaren Special Operations with guidance from Peter Stevens who designed the legendary McLaren F1. As such, the McLaren 650S Le Mans borrows many design cues from the F1 GTR with the roof scoop being the most notable feature. This new snorkel not only provides the 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine with additional air but it also adds louder induction noises.

Elsewhere, the McLaren 650S Le Mans by MSO features a new carbon fibre front splitter as well as a more aggressive and downforce generating rear diffuser. Completing the visual modifications are new ‘Le Mans Edition lightweight wheels which measure 19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the rear with a classic five-spoke design. These wheels are then wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres.

Inside, the McLaren 650S Le Mans features a host of black leather and alcantara pieces with a Le Mans logo embossed onto the headrests and the custom floor mats.

Beneath the skin, the car remains mechanically identical to the ‘regular’ 650S. Consequently, it delivers an equal 641 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque and can consequently reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 3 seconds flat. Top speed of the British supercar sits at 333 km/h (207 mph).

Discussing the car, Peter Stevens said, “The design of the McLaren F1 rewrote the rulebook. It was intended to offer the ultimate, no compromise road driving experience. The fact that it was transformed into a racer, and a race winner, was true testament to the strength and integrity of the original design, which is something I am very proud of.

“With a mix of subtle design traits, the 650S Le Mans adds a modern twist by blending the iconic lines of the McLaren F1, and heritage features such as the wing louvres and the roof-mounted air intake, with groundbreaking technologies. It is a fantastic homage to that original design, and to the incredible race result achieved by the team in 1995 at one of the most difficult, and most challenging races in the world,” he said.

Just 50 examples of the McLaren 650S Le Mans will be available globally with all coming in coupe specification.
