Jaguar may have only just launched the Jaguar XE and already, work is well underway for the next-generation XJ. According to the latest reports about the new Jaguar flagship, it could adopt a very unique and revolutionary design.

Despite the existing Jaguar XJ featuring a rather subdued design, the British marque is said to be working on a complete redesign pinned to be more in line with the entry-level XE sedan. Edmunds believes that beyond the current front grille being maintained, “everything else will change”.

Prior to the new Jaguar XJ arriving, the luxury car will be facelifted for the 2015 model year. Recently prototypes spied testing have sported new headlights as well as revised bumpers and a slightly modified front grille.

When the facelifted 2015 Jaguar XJ does arrive, we expect all variants of the existing Jaguar XJ to be made available in facelifted form meaning a new Jaguar XJR will arrive in the not too distant future.

In case you didn’t know, the current 2014 Jaguar XJR features Jaguar’s signature engine, the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine. In the XJR this engine delivers 550 hp at 6500 rpm and 680 Nm of torque between 2,500 and 5,500 rpm, Up 40 hp and 55 Nm of torque compared to the XJ Supersports. With the uprated engine and the optimized setup of the 8-speed ZF gearbox the XJR propels from 0-100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds and continues to an electronically limited top speed of 280 km/h.

As for the facelifted, range-topping 2015 Jaguar XJR we expect it to not only adopt some visual and aerodynamic changes but some small performance upgrades as well.
