Ferrari Believes Turbocharging is the Right Way for Performance and Consumption

Ferrari isn’t shying away from the future of turbocharging with the company announcing that as it stands, there is no better set-up than turbocharged internal combustion engines for combining performance with efficiency and consumption.

When discussing the future potential of turbocharging, Ferrari CEO Amadeo Felisa said, “Turbocharging and direct gasoline injection is the right way for performance without a payment in consumption. To get the same performance with naturally aspirated engines at the same consumption is difficult.”

However, Felisa stopped short of confirming that the next generation Ferrari California will in fact feature a turbocharged engine stating, “Today’s California doesn’t lack performance…To evolve performance as we have the past four or five years, turbo is a solution.”

However, turbochargers are known for dulling the exhaust notes of supercars, and when asked if turbocharging could dilute the insane Ferrari exhaust notes we’ve become accustomed to, Felisa simply said, “Wait and see.”
