Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo

The Gran Turismo series are some of the best racing simulation games ever to be created for games consoles. The true-to-life details of the cars and the millimeter perfection of the circuits that feature in the game are mind blowing. Often, however, the games designers decide to have a little fun and get manufacturers to design cars specifically for the virtual world. In this instance, for GT6, Mercedes were chosen and the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo was born exclusively for the game. Or so we thought…

A 1:1 scale model of the car has made its debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show this week and it certainly is striking! So what is the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo all about then? As you have probably already worked out, the concept is centred around styling. Mercedes describe the proportions as “extreme”, it gets a long bonnet with a compact greenhouse and broad arches. Motorsports cues include catches on the bonnet and the fuel cap. The radiator grille re-interprets the classic shape of the 1952 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL racing cars.

Inside, Mercedes-Benz have fitted red sports seats and they say that the dashboard has been designed with form lifted from the Gullwing doors. The central display is in the drivers eye line and the car features a racing steering wheel.

Naturally, AMG have fitted a front mid-mounted AMG V8 engine to the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo. Power stands at 585 hp and 800 Nm of torque. The chassis is an aluminium space frame and weight is kept down to 1,385 kg with a power to weight ratio of 2.4 kilograms per hp. The power is kept in check with a set of AMG ceramic high-performance composite brakes. Interestingly, the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo features a sports exhaust system with eight tailpipes!
