Toyota Motorsport GmbH has just revealed its latest in a long-line of racing cars with the release of the brand new TMG GT86 CS-R3 rally car.
While not designed to compete in the World Rally Championship, the TMG GT86 CS-R3 will compete in the lower R3 class and features a host changes to turn this rear-wheel drive sports car into a formidable rally car best suited to gravel and mud.
Such changes include a six-speed sequential transmission, limited slip differential as well as a more potent powertrain. Additionally, the TMG GT86 CS-R3 receives upgrades brakes and will join the Toyota Yaris R1A as a rally car available to your everyday customer.
For now, these are the only details about the TMG GT86 CS-R3 to have been released. The remaining technical specifications will remain a secret for a few more months to come.
When discussing the car, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport Nico Ehlert said;
“Rallying is in our blood at TMG so it is very exciting to announce that we will be expanding our rally operations. The GT86 CS-R3 promises to be a thrilling car on the rally stages; with rear-wheel drive we can expect some dramatic action which is sure to be entertaining for drivers and fans alike. Through our experience with the TMG GT86 Cup and the TMG GT86 CS-V3 race car we have built a solid infrastructure for customer motorsport over the past few years. We will draw on this to deliver a reliable, safe and high-performance car, plus all the required technical support, for our customers. We expect demand to be high so we are looking forward to seeing a lot of GT86 CS-R3 rally cars in action from the beginning of the 2015 season.”
